Welcome to Island Farm

Inmates

Early prisoners to the camp were a mix of low ranking German and Italian soldiers, captured in the North African campaign, and were a novelty for the people of Bridgend, very low risk. In November 1944, this changed with an influx to the camp of nearly 2000 hardened German Officers.

The picture above from the South Wales Echo paints a pleasant picture of life in the camp, it seems that most were happy in Bridgend. Photograph taken by Camp Photographer, Mr Elwyn James.
